Critters of Costa Rica

I thought I would share some photos that I have taken while living in Costa Rica since Nov, 2010  .  There are so many interesting bugs and animals here, and unfortunately I do not carry my camera with me as much as I should.

he's cruisingThis little guy had so much personality. It seemed like he just wanted to be photographed. He liked to look at me and was posing in so many ways.  The subtle coloring of his blue/green body reminded me of those two tone car paints that changed colors when they drove by.Hello buddy

We found him up near Monteverde when we stopped to take some photos of the Gulf of Nicoya and pastoral land below.he shiny

The photos of the birds below were taken on the Tarcoles River while on the Crocodile Adventure boat ride.  Please excuse some of the blurriness as the boat was going pretty fast in many cases. The operator was very helpful and wherever possible he would get close as he could to the birds.  I am going to refrain from telling you all of the names of these birds, as I really don’t care what they are called. But from time to time I will mention some of them by common names.

2 birdsI wish I could have been closer to the pink spoonbill but he was up in the trees and the boat was rocking and I was using my telephoto lens. The two Macaws are Ana’s and my favorite birds as they always are paired up. 2 macaws

Don’t these guys look like one of the Three Stooges?joe jo

Up in the Cloud Forrest

The owners of the hotel said it was going to storm today, so it was with    some trepidation that we began our 3 kilometer walk up this stream, in the jungle, up to the waterfall.

Up in the Cloud ForrestIt was well worth the hike. The falls were energizing and refreshed the soul.wafaaal wartefa Waterfall with me

On the way up I decided to take a little breather and sat on this nice thick wooden bench.  Which immediately broke in half.  There were little wooden bridges, or planks, that crossed the river and they were very suspect.  Ana took about 2 dozen photos of me on these wooden bridges, hoping to get that perfect shot of me falling into the river.

OK, time to think about lifestyle changes.
